vVv.Nimbus Interview

I got the chance to catch up with is Victor "Nimbus" Maillé from vVv about his team, their performance at IPL5's ShootMania tournament in Vegas, and his thoughts on IPL6.

1.       Can you introduce yourself and your team (vVv Gaming - previously Do Not Jump) to those who might not know where you guys came from? How did you guys form the team? What are your roles in game?

Hey, I am team captain Victor ''Nimbus'' Maillé from team vVv gaming which consists of me, Casey "Flamehopper" Pitel and Gregory ''GregoMyEggo" Mcallen. The team came to be when my former disbanded(old dnj) and I decided to form a new one right in between the qualifiers of IPL 5. Flamehopper was a player with a lot of promise so I decided to go with him and we saw an old ShootMania player that came back called GregoMyEggo in a public server and picked him up. I'd say that I am somebody that is all around and that either fails miserably his attack rounds or does the biggest clutches, Flame is one of the nicest guys and is there to cool the team down, he also has a distinct style consisting of flick shots on attack and finally Grego is someone who is consistently good and isn't afraid to speak his mind on tactics.

2.       Your team recently came back from IPL5.  You were playing as DNJ back then but did not make it out of the Wild Card tournament.  Do you feel you did not play to your full potential?

Our team formed fairly late compared to others at IPL but we still did a good job in my opinion. Although we didn't place that well, we did have some fight in us when facing fnatic, a team that finished in the finals of the whole event and we could see it in the crowd. What we did get out of it, is practice vs top tier teams on Lan, especially European ones and it has changed us for the better.

3.      Your team has been playing very well as of late, beating SK Gaming, and RiYM recently (both 2-1 map score) in the SK Open ShootMania Cup #4 before falling to Curse (1-2) in the finals.  What do you attribute your rise in the North American scene to?

I think our consistent improvement is due to us sticking to it after IPL 5. With a goal we kept at it, practicing against the best teams in North-America and trying stuff on our own. We are also one of the few rosters that hasn't changed, we have that chemistry going and instead of going the easy way out, we tried to fix the problems that were there.

4.      Watching the IPL6 Qualifiers, what do you see in the European teams compared to the American teams? Which teams do you see qualifying from NA (9 teams, 1 pax team) and EU (6 teams?)  How do you think you will match up versus the European teams assuming your team qualifies? It will be the first time playing against most of them won't it?

Right now the difference between European and North-American teams are their play style. I still think that we are more defensive compared to Europe. They tend to really dive in as an attacker while we are taking angles from mid-range but there is exceptions of course. Qualified teams for North-America(not in order):

vVv, SK, Curse, SM, mMe, coL, RiYM, LK, Aero, PAX EastA team of players from another game

Qualified teams for Europe(not in order):

Colwn, Fnatic, 4Kings, PyRoGEN, Epsilon, Dignitas

I think we will do pretty good vs Europe this time around. Last time the NA Shootmania community was less active then right now and it will be a huge error underestimating us at the upcoming lan. We had time to practice against some of them at IPL 5 and we are coming prepared.

5.       How is your preparing for IPL6?  Do you have a strict practice schedule or do you find yourselves playing all the time out of passion? What has been the hardest part about moving up through the North American scene?

I think the key for coming to IPL 6 was not waiting till the event to practice but keeping up with it in the small tournaments before hand. We have a scheduled/loose practice regime, we try to set a time that is convenient for all of us everyday but then how much time varies on the other teams availability and our real life occupations. We tend to do a lot of community gaming as well and play some other modes or just a casual match of Elite. The hardest part about moving up the NA scene was working around our schedules to be able to practice a lot but also getting matches late at night against high level teams(we are more of a nocturnal team).

6. Any shout outs?

Of course, I'd like to thank the vVv gaming community and Steelseries! The community has been great and we appreciate all the support they have given us from watching our live stream to cheering us in tournaments. We are planning to do a lot of ''community nights'' with modes such as speedball and might have some events like a charity donation drive so hit us up at www.vvv-gaming.com and check our videos at youtube.com/user/vVvGamingTV. Last but not least, shoutout to everyone at IPL for helping ShootMania grow and for making awesome events!
